Now this is interesting. A service called Go-Wisp, for $50 per month, provides you with a modified firmware for Linksys WRT54G gateways that allow you to connect to the Go-WISP back-end for billing and account management while presenting a login screen to hotspot users. You set pricing and other details through a web interface on the router.

InPhase Technologies and Hitachi Maxell are currently working on a computer disc about the size of a DVD that could hold up to 1.6 Terrabytes of data with transfer rates reaching 120Mbps (as in megabytes)!!! Early models next year are expected to *only* hold 300GB and have a transfer rate of *just* 20 MBps(lol). The companies hope to have the disc and compatible drives on the market by the end of next year.
Maxell has the press release and some pictures.

Wow, do people still use Windows 98?!
Well, I suppose if you still do then this is the patch for you.
Exuberant Software has released the latest pack of Operating System Only patches for Windows 98SE. None of the Internet Explorer updates are included here so you will still need to download those manually from the Microsoft site (Are those even available for Windows 98?), but at least this will help with the digging…

Since the holiday season is in full steam and office parties are starting to pop up, here’s a tip. If you’re gonna photocopy your butt, try not to crack the glass. And if you jam the copier, you might wanna try clearing it.

Two of Google’s ex-employees have started a blog called Xoogle about their life when they worked at Google and life afterwards.
I haven’t read much yet, but it looks pretty interesting and I can only imagine that as they are able to get more ex-googlers to join in, it’ll just get better.

After 1 year of great success in their Folding@Home Project, the World Community Grid has started a new project to help find a cure for AIDS. Called FightAIDS@Home, this project will be the same as Folding@Home where people volunteer spare CPU cycles to test how small molecules, such as drug candidates, might bind or “dock” to a receptor of known 3D structures.
In other words, users help to search for drugs, which will attach to the HIV-1 virus in a way that stops it from spreading.
Not that the Folding@Home project isn’t as important, but if you are already a member, I would urge you to move over to the FightAIDS@Home project and help find a cure!

So I’m sure everyone knows about this whole Sony thing by now so let’s not go there. However, what you might not have known is that Sony has finally released a list of CDs that had this “content protection technology.”
What’s even more interesting is that list has grown from what everyone originally thought was only 20 CDs to 52! CDs that go way back to early this year.
For anyone affected by this technology, Sony has released an uninstall program along with the option to exchange your CD for one that does not have the software installed on it.
