The Key to Hard Work, Is Slacking Off

March 24th, 2006 by Ken

Now we’re talking!! What a better time to check this out than on a beautiful non-rainy Friday morning with the weekend ahead of us.

Before you go and try to discredit this article, consider its source, FORTUNE Magazine! So you gotta know that this is good stuff :D But in all seriousness, what the article talks about is how in this busy lifestyle we all lead, sometimes we just have to stop everything and relax, and things will become clearer.

It’s really, really hard, if not impossible, for the human brain to come up with fresh new ideas when its owner is overworked, overtired, and stressed out.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m just going to go and… relax… in front of the TV… with some food… yeah.

GMail and GreaseMonkey

March 23rd, 2006 by Ken

Everyone and their dog pretty much has a gmail account now-a-days and if you don’t let me know and I’ll send over an invite. I don’t use mine very much but it’s nice to have none the less :D While the interface isn’t very fancy it’s still quite powerful and has some pretty neat features in it. Alone, gmail works great but mix in a little GreaseMonkey and things start getting scary powerful.

How much more powerful? Check out LifeHacker’s tutorial and find out!

The Beginning of Solid State Hard Drives

March 23rd, 2006 by Ken

Samsung unveiled what they are calling to be the first 32GB solid state disk! To be marketed as replacements for current hard drive technology, Samsung reports that in a 2.5in form-factor product, the SSD consumes just 5% of the energy required now, operating at 5V and connects across a 66MHz Ultra DMA parallel ATA bus.

This is all very exciting as with laptops and other portable devices become more and more common, power consumption is one of the highest priorities for manufacturers. Just imagine the amount of energy saved from not having to keep the hard drives spinning. This alone will probably give users a good hour or 2 more I would think?

Well, here’s hoping that this catches on fast and we start seeing larger capacities!

CrazyEgg!

March 22nd, 2006 by Ken

Haha, not only is this a COOOL name, it’s COOOL software! What is it? Crazyegg, is a new type of webstats system which looks quite promising. Essentially, it makes it really easy to see what’s hot on your website and what’s not. While it’s still in development, the website has a demo you can check out. Be sure to give the heatmap a poke!

Good Time to Buy Flash Memory?

March 21st, 2006 by Ken

Apparently flash memory prices are going to be hitting a slump over this first quarter of 2006. I haven’t seen anything so far so maybe it’s either a delayed effect or retailers are just padding the cost for profit!

The BBC reports that we should see drops of up to 25%! Am I just missing out? I need a SD card for my Treo and another CF card for the camera :)

Mobile Blogging

March 16th, 2006 by Ken

The advantage of having a connected device like the Palm Treo is that not only do you have a PDA and phone in one, you have immediate internet access when you need it. One beef I have with the PalmOS is that good software really is hard to find, but I digress. Getting back on topic is that I have found two pieces of great software for anyone with a camera enabled smartphone.

- mo:Blog: Post to your blog from your PDA/Smartphone
- SplashBlog: Photoblogging!

I’ll post more on these later. BTW, I’m posting this from my Treo650! :)
