Currently I store all my precious data on an old computer turned server which has worked great for a bunch of years now but it’s time for an upgrade. The 150GB hard drive is filled up and having all my important stuff on 1 hard drive is making me pretty nervous. So I picked up a Thecus N5200B, also known as the N5200 Pro which sports dual gigabit LAN connections, 5 SATA II hot swappable drive bays, and as far as I know, the only consumer NAS that supports RAID 6. Full specifications can be found on the Thecus website.
If you’re like me and like shiny things and blinky lights, this unit is definitely for you! Read on for my initial thoughts. Read the rest of this entry »

A feature in Windows Vista rarely mentioned can now be on your Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP machine too! Vista Drive Icons changes your drive icons under My Computer into the Vista ones with little bars under each to show how much drive space is in use.

Okay, so I was working away happily in Dreamweaver CS3 when suddenly upon opening another file, Dreamweaver would crash. It appeared to be just this one file (mind you I didn’t think to test throughly) so I tried opening up the file in notepad to see if there was something messed with it… Worked. Copying the code and pasting into a new file in Dreamweaver… Worked but then crashed again.. Rebooted… No difference.
So I did a quick search and came up with this blog post.
He suggested deleting some kind of file cache from Dreamweaver and low and behold, it worked!
One of the comments on his post also caught my eye.
It appears it was all because of the swith over from British Summertime back to Greenwich meantime. Sorry to appear uneducated but I’m not sure what times other countries go back to across the globe. Inshort terms, the clocks went back and dreamweaver broke.
I don’t know if it was a coincidence but we just switched back to Pacific Standard Time on Sunday. Perhaps Dreamweaver does some kind of update to the cache every few days? In any case, this fixed my problem. Go figure.
